Description
Up for sale, a Warmoth custom bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Dubbed the "Fenderbird" unofficially by the Warmoth community, this bass pairs a Thunderbird-style body with an official Fender Licensed Precision Bass neck. The tonewood combination of a maple neck, slab ebony fretboard, and solid mahogany body yields a natural rumble, rich midrange character, and articulate, glassy treble grind. The centrally located Curtis Novak handwound USA-made BS-DS Dark Star/Bi-sonic pickup (faithfully crafted to match the ones found on vintage Hagstrom and Guild instruments) delivers plenty of foundational low end, with an upper-midrange burp and defined trebles that are present without being overly bright. Weighing 9lbs 15oz, this Warmoth Fenderbird has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with roundwound 45-105 strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with good shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features pearloid dot inlay and jumbo fretwire. The frets are in exceptional shape with their full height and well-rounded crowns, showing a hint of wear exclusively beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The bass has a full 34" scale length, with a modern 9 1/2" fretboard radius and 1 11/16" nut width. On the headstock, the tuners have a vintage footprint with large chrome clover-shaped keys which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, the electronics consist of Master Volume and Tone knobs for the single Curtis Novak BS-DS Bisonic-style pickup, wired to full-size CTS pots and a premium Mallory tubular tone cap. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine, and the plastics are clean as can be, comprising of a pair of black speed knobs and a three-ply tortoise pickguard. The Schaller top-loader bridge features individually adjustable roller saddles for optimal intonation and malleable string spacing. Cosmetic wear is limited to light targeted buckle rash on the back and light marks mostly relegated to the edges of the body. The neck profile sports a clean satin finish.
